The Lanark Writers came together as a small circle of like-minded friends in 1994. Since then it has grown into an active and vibrant group, who meet on Monday evenings in the ALVO facilities, 2 Hope Street Lanark.

They work on collaborative projects and regularly publish anthologies, audio CDs, and calendars.

The success of Lanark Writers is embedded in their welcoming and friendly nature and their shared vision of developing the diverse writing talents of each individual. Whether they wish to write only for pleasure or fulfil a life-long dream of publishing novels, there is range of experience within the group willing to help.

The meetings take place in an enjoyable relaxed atmosphere with the opportunity to read out the set ‘homework piece’ (a weekly prompt), as a brief showcase. This draft is then published in the ‘In House Magazine’, but is not compulsory. The author’s previous work in this internal magazine is then voluntarily opened up to generate feedback and encouraging comments from the group.

It is a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is made to feel comfortable and generally chat as well as get advice or offer support to each other.

There is a break for chocolate biscuits.
