Lanark ASC finish top Scot at National Open Water Championships

Lanark ASC National Open Swimming Championships

Three Lanark swimmers made the long journey to Thrybergh Country Park in Rotherham for the swim England run National Open Water Championships.

It was the trio’s first swims at GB level and also the first time they competed without wetsuits; the water temperature being 21 degrees.

Justin Bone (12) competed in the 2km event finishing 23rd in a time of 34minutes 01 secs. 

Thirteen year old Millie McArthur found the water a tad cold but swam a best ever time of 30 minutes 02 seconds to finish 30th in her age group. Abbigail McArthur also swam a personal best in the 5km event taking 11th place in a time of 1 hour 12 minutes.

Coach Karen Kelly said “It was a big step up for the 3 swimmers, a massive learning curve but they gave it their all and finished top Scot in their respective age groups. They have been training hard with Coach Stephen Pratt and can be proud of qualifying and competing at GB level.”
