Lanark ASC competes on three fronts in one day
Lanark ASC swimmers were out in force recently with 35 swimmers competing at 3 different venues on the same day; Midlands District Open Water Championships at Monikie, the Larkhall Avondale ASC Meet at Larkhall and the Summer Meet at Musselburgh.
First up were the open water swimmers at Monikie. Justin Bone (11/12) won the 2km title, this following on from his 1 km success at the East District Lochore Meadows event. 13/14 year olds Millie McArthur and Euan McLeod won their 2km events and their was a bronze medal for Abbigail McArthur (15/16) in the 5km championships.
Onto Larkhall where 16 swimmers represented the Club .Cameron Bruce, Ross Carswell, Ellarose Stewart and Mia Rae all won events and other top 3 finishes went to Abbie Barnstaple, Helena Ramage, Niamh Jeffrey and Connor Fallon. 4 to 6 place medals were awarded to Katie Towers, Chelsea Millward, Ian Henderson and Emma McCafferty.
News spread to the Musselburgh Summer Meet of the Larkhall and Monikie medal spree and the 14 young swimmers were determined to join in the party. Evi Mackie became the fastest 10 year old girl over 50m butterfly in the Club’s history when she won the event in a time of 37.51 seconds. Other gold medallists were Robbie McDairmant, Erin Lammie, Jessica Pratt, Malcolm Ormrod and Alastair McDairmant and Ailishia Forgie in the relay. Silver / bronze medallists were Charlie Barnstaple, Calum MacDonald and Ryan Allan with 4tth to 6th place pennants won by Orlaith Jeffrey.
At the end of a very busy and successful day coach Karen Kelly said “I was at Musselburgh with the 8 – 11 year olds and was delighted to hear the news filtering through from the other two venues. It is the first time in my 46 years with the Club I can recall us competing on three fronts in the one day. Logistically very challenging but ultimately very rewarding”
