Lanark were shocked when goalkeeper Gareth Hallford was sent off after only 18 minutes after receiving two yellow cards.  With no substitute goalkeeper, defender Cammy Lawson had to take on the responsibility.

After 30 minutes the referee evened up the numbers when he red carded Ardeer right back Jamie Morgan for a deliberate hand ball offence. From the resultant free kick from Peter O'Donnell United opened the scoring when Ian watt scored with a well placed header.

There was no more scoring in a well contested first half but on 57 minutes United doubled their lead when a right wing cross from Watt was headed home by Hugh Kerr. Three minutes later Ardeer pulled one back when a shot by Steven Gibson was deflected away from Lawson inside his left hand post.

On 63 minutes Declan Lafferty sent  a through ball to Kerr who cleverly lobbed the ball over the advancing 'keeper into the net. Ardeer again  reduced the leeway on 77 minutes when a free kick by Sean Quinn was dropped by Lawson and Matt Santos pounced to prod the ball into the net.

Peter O'Donnell completed the scoring on 72 minutes when he was in the right spot to fire home a right wing cross from Danny McHugh.
