Open water success continues for Lanark ASC

Millie and Abbigail both returned home with medals from the event

Lanark ASC maintained their strong run of form in open water competition after three swimmers made the trip north to Loch Venachar near Callander for the Scottish Championships last weekend.

The two-day event welcomes Competitors take part in events from 500m to 10km, along with a 4x500m relay event.

Abbigail McArthur and Heather Stevenson were in action on the Saturday, taking part in the 15/16 age group events.

The conditions were very choppy but the young Lanarkians did the club proud, with Abbigail finishing second in the 5km race and Heather taking fourth in the 2km race.

There were calmer waters for the swimmers on Sunday and Millie McArthur competed in the 11/12 years age group.  The youngster became Scottish Champion in the 1km race to round off an excellent weekend’s swimming by the Lanark trio.

Coach Karen Kelly commented: “Hats off to Heather and Abbigail battling the elements on the Saturday and well done to young Millie, who had swam the 1km only once before the weekend.”
