Lanark ASC were in long course action again when 14 swimmers competed in the Autoparts East Kilbride ASC open, held in a 50m pool.

The Lanark swimmers aged over 12 competed in events from 100m to 400m, some in events they had never swam before over long course.

Lanark won six medals and put 50 new personal times on the board.

Millie McArthur (10/11 years) won three silver medals; 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle. Her sister, Abbigail, was second in the (14/15) 200m backstroke and in the same age group Heather Stevenson was third in the 200m breaststroke.

Alistair Dunsmore (14/15) was second in the boys 200m breaststroke.

After the meet coach Karen Kelly said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to our good friends from East Kilbride for a fully accredited Open Meet. Some of our swimmers were out their comfort zone at the Meet competing over long events, in a long course pool and at an open meet where a personal best was the reward and not a medal.

“On the whole they can be very satisfied with their efforts, although a stronger commitment to the early morning training sessions would enhance performances even further.”
