Lanark swimmers shine in strong display at North Ayrshire 200

Lanark ASC’s busy start to 2018 continued when 17 swimmers travelled to Stevenston for the two-day North Ayrshire 200, bringing home three best in age group awards and 39 medals.

The meet, which consists of events at least 200m and above, was another valuable experience for the swimmers with 12 gold, 11 silver and 16 medals returning to the Royal Burgh in another impressive performance from the club.

Justin Bone clinched the best in age group award for the 10 years and under category, while Mitchell Stevenson and Erin Snow claimed the prize in the 15/16 years group.

Thirteen of the squad won medals.

10 and under

11 years

Millie McArthur – two gold, two silver and one bronze

12 years

Ellarose Stewart – one bronze

15/16 years

Erin Snow – two gold, two silver and two bronze

Shiona McClafferty – two gold, one silver and one bronze

After the all-weekend four session competition, coach Karen Kelly said: “The swimmers enjoyed an excellent two days of swimming. Some of our younger swimmers were competing in events they had never swum before but took it in their stride.

“To bring back three best in age group awards and a large medal haul was pleasing but more importantly was the experience gained and times posted in a 200m and above competition.”
