Lanark man drives away with surprise birthday win

Robert Lawson

A plasterer from Lanark was left speechless after he scooped a brand-new BMW M2 Competition plus £10,000 cash in BOTB’s midweek car competition.

The huge win was perfect timing for Robert Lawson as his 22nd birthday is just days away.

But it wasn’t a straightforward surprise -  the BOTB team tried for hours to get through to Robert but he had left his phone in his van while he worked.

“I was so confused when I got back to the van and my phone had all these missed calls. Then to find out it was Christian from BOTB, I was just so shocked!” said Robert.

He could barely get his words when he realised he would be upgrading his Vauxhall Corsa to a car worth more than £50,000.

“It’s all just so unreal,” he added. “I chose the BMW because my brother-in-law’s got one and I just love it. The noise they make is incredible.”

But the surprise wasn’t finished there.

Christian opened the boot of the car to reveal £10,000 in cash.

“Oh wow, no way!” he said. “I don’t know what to say! This is crazy!”

Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch, BOTB has given away over £34m worth of prizes, including supercars, cash and holidays.

Christian Williams said: “Robert was a bit difficult to get hold of but once we managed to speak to him it was clear to see how delighted he was. He’s chosen a fantastic car and I hope he enjoys it!”
