Referrals open for Lanarkhelps activity and support services

LanarkHelps Activity Packs

Lanarkhelps is more than just a helpline. At the start of May, Greyfriars Parish Church, working on behalf of the group, was awarded £25,538 from the Scottish Government Wellbeing Fund and £5,000 from the South Lanarkshire Council Renewable Energy Fund.

This funding has allowed for the development of six projects which will provide direct support to those living in Lanark and the surrounding villages, free of charge to the individuals.

Referrals are now open for two of these projects and members of the local community are actively encouraged to refer themselves, a family member, friend or someone they know (with their permission).

Healthy Minds - A large stock of jigsaws are available to loan out on a weekly basis and mindfulness colouring books and pencils to gift to people who are on their own / at risk of isolation / at risk of poor mental health.

Dementia Support – A large stock of dementia friendly activities are available (Such as jigsaws, games and reminiscence books) to loan to families on a weekly basis. These are open to anyone who could benefit from them.

To refer for either of these services, complete the simple online form at this web page or call 01555 437 051

Bryan Kerr, Minister at Greyfriars Parish Church commented "Thanks for the funding received, we have a very large capacity for these projects (around 100-150 people per project) and so we are keen for the local community to refer people to us!"

Lanarkhelps is also seeking referrals for the "Community Check-In Phonecalls" service which is being delivered by HealthyValleys.

If you know of someone from the Lanarkhelps area who would benefit from a weekly call for a general and uplifting chat, please email to recieve a copy of the referral form, and HealthyValleys will ensure that they receive a friendly weekly call.

This support is for people who are isolated and lonely and not for complex mental health support.  If you have somebody who needs more intensive support please get in touch on and the group will see which agency is best placed to support them.

The Lanarkhelps community phoneline is already in operation providing support for anyone in Lanark and the surrounding villages, with a team of volunteers providing a listening ear as well as free, practical support with tasks such as prescription collections and delivery, shopping and energy meter top-ups.  Anyone who needs the free services of the support line should call 01555 437051 Monday – Friday 9am to 4:45pm, or Saturday 9am – 12noon.

Lanarkhelps is an initiative of local voluntary organisations including CCI Scotland, Lanark Churches, Healthy Valleys, Lanark Community Development Trust and the Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council to provide practical support as part of the community response to COVID-19. Project support and governance is overseen by Greyfriars Parish Church, Lanark, a charity registered in Scotland, SC016504. Lanarkhelps has received external funding or in-kind support from Faith in Community Scotland, the William Grant Foundation, National Lottery Community Fund, Tesco Bags of Help, Voipfone, Lanark Rotary Club, St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lanark, Scottish Government Wellbeing Fund, South Lanarkshire Council Renewable Energy Fund (Community Benefit Fund).
