Get set for spring at Castlebank Horticultural Centre

Daffodils

This spring, Castlebank Horticultural Centre is hosting a variety of community events and activities, from gardening workshops and guided walks, to painting classes and Easter fun.

On Saturday 7th March the spring activities will begin with a free guided walk in Castlebank Park. The walk will be led by Stuart Ritchie, Educational Gardener at Castlebank Horticultural Centre. Stuart will point out the first signs of spring, discuss interesting plants, the natural environment and the work of the volunteers in regenerating the park's formal gardens.

Also starting in March will be the centre’s ‘Ready, Set, Garden’ series of workshops. These beginner-level workshops will cover a variety of basic gardening skills, from growing fruit & veg to gardening with wildlife in mind. Participants can book onto all 6 workshops, or take part in individual workshops which run monthly from March to November.

During the Easter holidays in April, there will be two ‘Family Gardening Club’ sessions on 8th and 10th April. On Monday 13th April, the centre will host its annual ‘Easter Open Day’ with activities for all the family including: face painting; Easter egg treasure hunt; spring scavenger hunts and more.

May brings ‘Foraging Fortnight’ and the centre will host a ‘Wild Food Walk’ on 3rd May, then the annual FlowerFest returns to the park from 8th – 10th May. This year’s festival will be themed on VE Day 75th Anniversary to coincide with the national celebrations. Festival tickets are £3 per day or £5 for the weekend.

Castlebank Horticultural Centre is managed by Lanark Community Development Trust. Proceeds from the centre’s activities are reinvested by the Trust in the maintenance and regeneration of Castlebank Park’s gardens by a dedicated volunteer team.
