Lanark 'Lightning Strikes' dance their way to Florida

Dancing stars from schools across Lanark are competing in Orlando this May

On Sunday 3rd of March 2019, Lightning Strikes, the competitive team associated with Dance Rite Academy took part in Jamfest’s Northern Jam competition in Blackpool. The squads did phenomenally well, achieving many coveted titles.

The following evening, Dance Rite received the wonderful news that a number of their squads had been granted bids to perform at The Summit World Championship in Orlando. 

Heading off to this once in a lifetime opportunity on 2nd May 2019 will be the Youth Pom and Youth Lyrical squads.  The two teams are made up of 15 girls from across the Lanark Learning Community from P7 - S2.

A representative from Lanark Grammar School said "being selected for this high profile and prestigious world competition is the pinnacle of their dance career to date and we wish them all the luck in the world."

DanceRite are currently trying to raise £5,000 to fund flights, accommodation, registration fees, costumes and training kits for the competition. You can support their CrowdFunder here.

Lanark Grammar School: Anna Rogers, Ruby Whitelaw, Kaylah Fairley, Abby Baird, Isla Cullen, Megan Brownlie, Robyn Adair           

St Mary’s Primary School: Rachel Mathews, Gemma Noble

Robert Owen Memorial Primary: Sophie Finlay, Emma Gregg, Amy McGill, Kira Calvin

Lanark Primary School: Ruby Dickson, Abi Weir
