Rotary Club of Lanark backs Shiona McClafferty’s Deaflympics campaign
Rotary’s Neil Gainford and Roddy McKenzie of Sport Aid Scotland presented the cheque to Shiona
The Rotary Club of Lanark boosted Lanark ASC’s Shiona McClafferty Deaflympics campaign with a cheque for £1,000 ahead of the 16-year-old’s trip to Turkey to swim for Great Britain.
Members of the Great Britain team receive no funding ahead of competing at the event but locals have rallied to support Shiona’s efforts in recent months.
The money was raised by the Rotary Club following an Inspirational Speakers Dinner and donated to Sport Aid Scotland to support young local athletes.
Shiona, who was South Lanarkshire’s Junior Female Disabled Sports Personality of 2016, features in eight events in just six days alongside 12 other Great Britain swimmers.
The Royal Burgh has two swimmers participating at the event, with former Lanark ASC swimmer Jack McComish also featuring for the national side.
