The Neolithic /New Stone Age Farmers were responsible for cutting down the forests around Lanark and developing both cereal and stock farming. They were also the first people in Lanarkshire to start producing pottery. The Neolithic people also started to worship the sun and the moon. Also they were the first people to live communally in long houses. Evidence – a Stone axe found near Lanark Loch and possible henge site near Robiesland Farm now quarried away.
