55.673693
-3.780556
Start in Lanark town centre, head for Kirkfieldbank Brae, Lanarkshire, ML11
Free!

This 4k circular walk starts at any point in Lanark's High Street and makes its way through the historic Westport before descending down the Kirkfieldbank Brae. Cross the historic Clydesdholm bridge then make your way up part of the Clyde Walkway to Castlebank Park, through the park then onto the site of Lanark's Motte and Bailey Castle.

You'll be glad to be walking DOWN Kirkfieldbank Brae, its steep gradient incline makes it a challenging upward route for walkers, cyclists and drivers alike.

Kirkfieldbank's Clydesholm Bridge was built in 1699 to replace a dangerous ferry crossing not far from Stonebyres Linn not far away. When the river was in flood it was a dangerous crossing with more than one ferry and its passengers having been lost to the current.
