The Inner Wheel Club of Lanark met to enjoy an Afternoon Tea on the 11th September exactly 40 years to the day since they received their Charter. Joining us on this occasion was District 2 Chairman, Sue Morris, representatives from three of our nearest clubs, Motherwell and Wishaw (our Mother Club), Larkhall and Monklands and the President of Lanark Rotary Club Jill Murie. Due to the uncertainties of the Pandemic we had to restrict our numbers and we missed not having our friends from the other clubs, from further afield in our District, join us.
After a welcome from President Loraine Swan, an enjoyable speech from District 2 Chairman Sue Morris, lighting of the Inner Wheel candle by club member Betty Wootton and the cutting of the cake by Founder Member and Vice President Anne Houston, who also received a 40 year certificate it was time to relax, open our individual cake boxes and enjoy a delicious Afternoon Tea.
President Loraine also announced the result of the Club’s 40:40 Challenge. Unable to do their usual fundraising due to the pandemic each member was challenged to raise £40 in any way that suited them. Many inventive ways were found and with the wonderful support of the members, their families and friends and a generous donation of biscuits from Border Biscuits over £2000 had been raised
By the amount of chatter all were enjoying the opportunity to be back together in person for the first time since March 2020 and are hoping, fingers crossed, that all our meetings will be face to face this year.
Nowadays membership is not restricted to wives and daughters of Rotarians but welcomes women who are happy to share our objectives of friendship, personal service and international understanding. Our next meeting will take place on the 14th October in the Crown, all being well, when our speaker will be Gillian McNab on “Living life to the fullest with Huntington’s.” If you would like to join us the please email our secretary Mrs Anne Gray - eannegray@aol.com.
