New arrival signs have been installed in key locations in Lanark town centre to welcome and guide visitors to the town.
Located at transport arrival points near Lanark Railway Station, Wellgatehead car park and Bernard’s Wynd car park, they will direct visitors to local facilities and attractions.
The signs have been commissioned by Discover Lanark Business Improvement District (BID) with additional funding provided by The Levenseat Trust.
Antonia Pompa, BID Manager said, “We are delighted with the new signs. We wanted to provide visitors with a much clearer town centre map and additional information on key points of interest and local landmarks including leisure, cultural and heritage attractions. We hope this will help visitors discover the very best that Lanark has to offer.”
The new sign by Lanark Railway Station also highlights a range of attractions beyond the town centre such as New Lanark, Lanark Loch, Langloch Farm, Lanark Golf Course and Scottish Equestrian Centre, as part of Discover Lanark’s Great Days Out in Lanark campaign.
Catherine McGurk, Trust Administrator at The Levenseat Trust said, “We are delighted to support this important project. The bright new signs, incorporating a newly commissioned town centre map, will help visitors and residents get the most out of the town. We are delighted to have been able to put funding towards this.”
The signs form part of Discover Lanark’s work towards improving the appearance and access to the town. Other projects have included the refurbishment of the town’s historic closes and installation of interpretation signage, as well as a popular Business Frontage Improvement Grant scheme which has been taken up by 18 town centre businesses to improve their exterior appearance and enhance the overall look of the town. A William Wallace heritage interpretation and art project is to be delivered in the near future and Discover Lanark continues to look at ways of enhancing public space in the town centre following an extensive public consultation earlier in 2022.
