To welcome visitors back to Lanark safely and support the town’s cafes and takeaways, Discover Lanark has successfully launched a new outside seating space in the heart of the town centre.
Drawing on the success of last summer’s ‘Space @ Hyndford Place’, ‘Outside at the Tolbooth’ has been set up to support hospitality businesses currently coping with the impact of social distancing regulations.
Visitors can buy their food and non-alcoholic drinks at any of the town's cafes, takeaways and food businesses, and then enjoy a safe socially distanced sit down in the temporary space on the High Street. To make the experience more enjoyable, the area is set back from the road and surrounded by picket fencing, with accompanying planters filled with shrubs and floral displays.
Antonia Pompa, Discover Lanark Manager said "We were delighted with the success of The Space @Hyndford Place last summer. Not only did it provide safe seating in the town centre, it also brought a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to the town. The area outside the Tolbooth is completely different but we have tried again to make it welcoming and a bit different with the introduction of fencing, shrubs and flowers alongside the picnic benches and parasols."
"The hospitality industry has been particularly hard hit by COVID-19 and continues to need the backing of its loyal customers. We are pleased to provide this additional seating area and are confident that local people will once again show their support.”
Outside at the Tolbooth will be in place until late June when it is hoped that The Space @ Hyndford Place will return.
