Showcasing local places to visit in Lanark, New Lanark & the Falls of Clyde

A series of colourful banners have been installed on the main gateways to Lanark town centre highlighting the wealth of local attractions in the town and the surrounding area.

Ongoing coronavirus restrictions may mean that only local visits for exercise are permitted but that does not detract from the stunning landscapes and fun adventures that can be enjoyed.

The banner campaign, organised by Discover Lanark, features a number of free to visit attractions; Langloch Farm, Lanark Loch, Falls of Clyde, Tolbooth Lanark, Castlebank Park and New Lanark. With the exception of the Play Park and Nature Trail at Langloch Farm, all the outside attractions are open currently for local exercise and visitors are urged to follow any COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines in place.

With the Easter break fast approaching, the Clearburn Play Area at New Lanark offers plenty of fun for families as does the magical Fairy Dell at Castlebank Park and outdoor play area at Langloch Farm.

For a longer walk amidst the stunning backdrop of the River Clyde, locals can appreciate a stroll through the beautiful buildings in the historic New Lanark before setting out along the tree lined Clyde Walkway to the spectacular Falls of Clyde. For a more peaceful waterside setting, a walk around Lanark Loch is ideal for adults and children alike. 

The recent announcement by the First Minister means that Tolbooth Lanark is now scheduled to reopen on 26th April with a new exhibition, Close Encounters. Visitors will be able to see the original illustrations by Kirsten Harris, drawn specially for the newly installed  information panels in the twelve closes, whilst Ronnie Cruwys will be exhibiting her new drawings depicting the rear of the closes.

Antonia Pompa, Discover Lanark Manager, said “We are so fortunate here in Lanark to be surrounded by amazing countryside with lots to see and explore. We have used our new banner sites to highlight some of these attractions whilst the message remains clear that we should take our exercise locally.”

She added, “We will be changing the banners during the year, initially to encourage local people to support the town, but hopefully by autumn to make visitors to the area more aware of what Lanark has to offer as we come out of COVID-19 restrictions.”
