People, and their stories, are at the heart of Lanimers. New Lanark World Heritage Site wants you to make up your best Lanimer story for their short story competition – let your imagination run wild!
Use the exhibition at New Lanark World Heritage Site - Lanark Lanimers: A Wee Look Back as inspiration. Come and see photographs of Lanimers in years gone by, listen to memories of Lanimers, and look at the objects that make Lanark Lanimers so unique.
How to Enter
Enter the competition in one of four categories, letting them know which category you are in.
Your story should be no more than 500 words.
Send your story to Nathalie Wood, Heritage Officer at New Lanark: Nathalie.wood@newlanark.org
Deadline: Monday 26 July
Prizes
The winner of each category will receive a £20 gift voucher to the New Lanark Café and Shop, and their stories will be published in the Lanimer 2021 brochure.
Highly Commended Entries will receive a £10 gift voucher to the New Lanark Café and Shop.
All entries will be published on the New Lanark website
If you need help getting started, think about the following questions:
1. Create your character! It can be whoever or whatever you want! Draw them, and give them a name.
2. Where is your story set? On a Lanimer lorry, at the Lanimer ball, watching the procession…?
3. Is your story set in the past, present, or future?
4. Are there any other characters in your story? Draw them, and give them names.
5. What’s happening and how is your character feeling?
6. Is there a happy ending? Or is there more to the story, to be told another time?
