Jurassic Lanark trail launches in Lanark town centre and New Lanark

This summer holiday has seen an invasion of dinosaurs in Lanark and New Lanark.

The twenty giant creatures have made Lanark town centre and New Lanark World Heritage Site their home for the summer with adventurous dinosaur hunters invited to hunt them down as they follow the free Jurassic Lanark trail.

The largest dinosaur, located outside Tolbooth Lanark is an animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex at over 6 metres long with a roar to match. Other highlights include a 5 metre high Brachiosaurus peeping out onto High Street, several ferocious looking Velociraptors, a Stegosaurus taking in a view of the Falls of Clyde and a flying Pteranodon swooping over New Lanark.

Organisers Discover Lanark want to provide visitors with a safe and memorable day out as they track down the fearsome creatures. Free trail maps are available from Tolbooth Lanark in the town centre or from New Lanark Mill Cafe. The trail is also available digitally on the LoyalFree App. Explorers who complete the trail successfully can pick up their Jurassic Lanark Badge from the same locations

Graeme McLeish, Chair of Discover Lanark said, “Jurassic Lanark is something special and promises to bring lots of visitors to Lanark. We want them to enjoy both our traditional town centre and the spectacular New Lanark World Heritage Site in a safe outdoor environment.”

He added, “I would like to encourage dinosaur hunters to take the time to explore the many excellent shops, cafes and restaurants in our town centre and at New Lanark on their way round the trail.  Long-lasting attractions like Jurassic Lanark are ideal for encouraging shoppers and visitors back in the knowledge that they are both safe and of course very welcome.”

Organised by Discover Lanark, the trail is open daily until 29 August.
