District 1020 Covid-19, Mental Health and Communication Project 2020

The Rotary Club of Lanark is pleased to confirm that 9 Kindle Fire tablets are being distributed to people in residential care and community support groups including The Beechgrove Care Home, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Group Support (DAGS) and Clydesdale Parkinson’s Disease Group. 

The project, which aims to reduce the stress caused by isolation during the Coronavirus pandemic, has been made possible by a grant from the Rotary Foundation - Rotary’s own charity. Each year, The Rotary Foundation gives $70M (£50M) worth of grants to Rotary Clubs to undertake small-scale local initiatives to large international projects.

Feedback from patients, service users and carers has been very positive:

‘Helped reduce drowsiness. Lifted mood’ (service user).

‘With support from staff this has reduced some residents’ anxiety and agitation but hopefully as time goes on will benefit them even more’ (manager).

‘Our youngest adult in the home that has no family input now, thanks to you, has his own tablet which he can use himself. After some tuition and support from staff, he now enjoys this (the tablet) for games, music and reading’ (manager).
