Donation from the Jardine family
At a recent celebration of the life of the late Moira Jardine, a retiring collection raised £700 for Lanark and District U3A. Moira, a qualified midwife originally from West Calder was married to well-known local businessman Lindsay (Lin) Jardine who successfully ran L. Jardine Joiners & Glaziers for many years and built their family home in Weavers Walk, Lanark where they lived with their three children Stephen, Alan and Linda.
Linda, who organised the collection, advised that the family had chosen the U3A to benefit from the funds raised as the group provides a number of activities for retired and semi-retired members in the local community, which her mum also previously enjoyed over her years in Lanark. Moira was a regular attendee of Lanark Exercise Group, Walking Group and Writers Group and was also a very keen gardener. She recounted Moira's many happy days with her walking group in Pitlochry and with the family at their caravan in Tighnabruaich.
Stephen resides in Lanark and follows in his father's footsteps with a career in joinery, Alan resides in Oklahoma, USA where he works in Corporate IT support and Linda also remains in Lanark where she is a senior project manager. Moira and Lin would be very proud of their close family, in particular their 4 grandchildren Emily, Andrew, Rosie and Skye.
Dr Jill Murie on behalf of Lanark and District U3A thanked Linda and the wider Jardine family for their generosity. The donation will be put to good use when the U3A reconvenes in August with a full programme of activities – further information on the group can be found at www.ldu3a.com for anyone interested in joining.
