Lanark is all set for a fabulous build up to Christmas with an exciting series of seasonal events. The festivities launch with Lanark Christmas Market and Lights Switch On on Saturday 19 November between 10am and 5.30pm. With scores of market stalls in High Street, this is always a bustling day full of good cheer and ideal for getting those unique Christmas gifts.
The build up to the switch on of the town’s Christmas lights starts from 2pm on the Stage, with music, games and entertainment. The most important visitor of all, Santa, will be on hand to push the plunger and light up the town at 5pm.
Late Night Lanark returns on Friday 25 September between 5pm and 8pm with a Lanimer illuminated costume parade, festive entertainment, late night opening in the town’s favourite shops and the launch of this year’s magical Winter Wonderland.
Discover Lanark’s Winter Wonderland, open daily from Saturday 26 November until Wednesday 28 December (10am to 6pm), promises even more delights this year with a pair of singing reindeer, kindly funded by the Rotary Club of Lanark, set to cause a musical stir. There will be special appearances by Santa and his Elves on Saturdays 3, 10 and 17 December (11am to 3pm) with lots of opportunities for taking photos and sharing those magic moments.
Saturday 3 December also sees the first outdoor Made in Lanark Festive Market, turning the spotlight on some 20 local makers and producers. Open from 10am to 3pm, this provides another opportunity to buy a unique gift, locally made.
Graeme McLeish, Chair of Discover Lanark Business Improvement District said, “I am delighted to support this fabulous programme of family events and to welcome visitors to our town centre. Christmas is a crucial time of year for the town’s traders and this year the town’s shops and businesses need your support more than ever. My message to everyone is to shop in Lanark, support your local businesses and enjoy a fabulous run up to Christmas.”
Lanark’s Christmas events are organised and funded by South Lanarkshire Council, Discover Lanark and other community partners.
