Lanark Community Development Trust (LCDT) was pleased to unveil the ‘coronation bench’ on Wednesday 3rd of May. The new bench situated near the railway station, celebrates the coronation of King Charles III, and replaces a bench that was no longer fit for purpose.
LCDT raised the funds for the bench through donations form individuals and other local organisations. Sylvia Russell, chair of LCDT, said she was ‘thrilled’ with the new bench and said, “it will be a lasting celebration of the Coronation and a reminder that Lanark is a Royal Burgh”. Sylvia also wished to thank those that had donated, particularly the other organisations in the town that gave so generously, including Lanark Inner Wheel, Discover Lanark, Lanark Museum Trust, Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council and Lanark Panto Club. The bench was unveiled by Sylvia, with representatives of the various organisations as well as private donors in attendance.
Sylvia wished to pass her thanks on to South Lanarkshire Council who installed the bench day before and kept it under wraps until the Wednesday. The bench itself was specially commissioned and built by ASA Forces Charity.
