One of Lanark’s leading local businesses, Bryson Tractors, has been taking action to reduce its carbon footprint.
Nancy Bryson, director of Bryson Tractors said that the new extension to the showroom provided the ideal opportunity to make the business that little bit greener.
“We started with small things, like changing to LED lighting, and installing refillable soap dispensers - to reduce single use plastic waste - and it’s grown from there.”
Bryson Tractors has taken the initiative and carried out a host of further steps: planting new hedging to capture carbon, reducing fossil fuel use by switching to a bio-mass heating system, installation of low flow toilets, more waste sent to recycling, introduction of reusable hand towels, installation of motion sensing lights and low energy hand dryers and reducing water consumption with auto taps in all the toilets on site.
Asked why Bryson Tractors had taken these measures, Nancy said, “We feel that we have a responsibility to take action to help make our business greener, and if we can do that and potentially save money, then it’s a win-win for us.”
In the next 6 months Nancy said that they will start to measure how much these greening actions will reduce their carbon footprint, as well as what impact it will have financially on operations.
Bryson Tractors has recently been recognised for achieving an Advanced Level in New Holland Agriculture’s Top Partner Awards, which celebrates their performance in all areas of the business. Nancy said “It is an amazing achievement for our single depot dealership, and a huge well done to all of our staff. Thanks also to our fantastic customers for supporting us – we couldn't win without you.”
In a further step, Bryson Tractors plans to adopt the New Holland Green Strategy in the coming months and further reduce its carbon footprint, reflecting the company’s long-term commitment to a more sustainable future.
