Take some time this year to support our local tourism businesses and explore Lanark and the surrounding area through the changing seasons. You won’t regret it.
The great outdoors
Winter walks are always a favourite, especially after the excesses of the festive season. With Lanark Loch, the Clyde Walkway and Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve, Lanark Racecourse, Castlebank Park and Delves Park all in easy reach, a gentle parkland stroll or rigorous river walk are easily organised. Don’t forget that warming cuppa and tasty treat in a nearby café when you’ve finished, you’ll have earned it.
As spring and summer approach, the youngsters can enjoy an outing to the Nature Play Park at Langloch Farm or the Clearburn Natural Play Area at New Lanark, both nestling in delightful woodland settings. For the more adventurous, Scottish Equestrian Centre offers pony woodland walks alongside its riding centre and horse-riding holidays. All three attractions have cafes where you can stop off for some delicious light refreshments.
Enjoy great events and entertainment
Lanark will be alive in the summer with events including the return of the roarsome Jurassic Lanark trail. With a selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, and the popular summertime outside seating area in Hyndford Place, a relaxing visit over lunchtime is recommended.
The Tolbooth, Lanark Memorial Hall and Lanark Museum, all located in the heart of the town, provide a vibrant year-round arts, entertainment and heritage programme, offering something for everyone.
History brought to life
The historic 18th century mill village of New Lanark, one of only six World Heritage Sites in Scotland, lies just outside the town, in a spectacular setting beside the River Clyde. A trip round the Visitor Centre includes the Annie McLeod Experience, Robert Owen’s House, the Millworkers’ Houses and much more. Don’t miss the excellent temporary exhibitions on offer and round off your trip with a visit to the Mill Café and Gift Shop.
