Discover Lanark Business Improvement District is delighted to announce that it has received the support of local businesses and organisations in its renewal ballot which closed on 29 February 2024.
The total number of votes in favour of renewing the BID for a second term was 135. This equates to a 75.4% yes vote by number and 82% by rateable value. The turnout was 48.5%.
The new term will commence on 1 September 2024 running through to 31 August 2029.

In the coming months, Discover Lanark will continue delivering its programme of events and services in accordance with its current Business Plan, whilst at the same time setting up new projects commencing from September 2024.
We look forward to an exciting programme of events this summer including Lanark Medieval Celebration, Lanark Spring Market, Jurassic Lanark and Lanark Summer Market, encouraging footfall and spend into the town.
We are also developing our Great Days Out in Lanark campaign with new video, photographic and printed content encouraging new and repeat visits to the town and surrounding area, and supporting our local tourism businesses.
Our Discover Lanark social media and website platforms continue to showcase the town’s businesses, events and attractions and we are always keen to hear any special promotions or news about member businesses which we can highlight as widely as possible.

A BID is a business led and business funded organisation formed to improve a defined area, in our case the town of Lanark.
Discover Lanark’s Board of Directors is made up of owners and managers of local businesses, and representatives of the public and third sectors. The current members of the board are:
They are responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the BID, ensuring that projects are delivered within budget to meet the needs of the town’s businesses. They bring together their expertise, ideas and enthusiasm in order to guide the BID forward and to support the work of the BID Manager, Antonia Pompa.
The BID is funded through a BID levy, based on the rateable value of each property. That money is ring-fenced and used to deliver the business plan. Once a majority vote in favour of the BID has been achieved, the BID levy becomes mandatory on all eligible ratepayers. You can see our most recent Financial Statements HERE.
In its four years of operation to date, Discover Lanark has generated an extra £325,000 funding on top of that generated from the BID levy and we continue to make funding applications to lever additional investment into the town and augment our delivery programme.
