This close contained the Cross Keys Inn, the remains of which still stand on the right-hand side. The opening date of the inn is not known but it was in operation by the early 1700s.
The inn, which closed in 1904, is a location in the play “The Flouer’s o’ Edinburgh” by the Scottish author Robert McLellan who was born at Linnmill, Kirkfieldbank.
