The Lindsay Institute was built in 1914 with trust funds left to the town by Charles Lindsay and was opened as a public library. Interesting fact - its toilet is the original in all features except the toilet seat! The Lindsay Institute is located on Lanark's historic Hope Street, the old main road to Edinburgh which is lined on each side with Victorian buildings.
