The Provost's Lamp

An ornate example of a lamp which traditionally marked the current Provost's home

Outside The Tolbooth at the bottom of the High Street stands The Provost's (mayor) lamp, dating from the 1890s. It was formerly situated outside the current Provost's house. This is one of a very limited number of remaining Provost's Lamps around the country. Walk past the lamp at night and you will still see it lit up!
