Lanark Grammar top at South Lanarkshire Disability Sports Awards

Lanark Grammar School Sport Disability Award

Coach Johnny Gardiner received the award on behalf of the school from Cllr David Watson Independent Councillor for East Kilbride West.

Lanark Grammar School has been named as the High School of the Year at the annual South Lanarkshire Disability Sports Awards.

Lanark Grammar ASN Football Team also won the Scottish ASN Football Championships, this is the third year in a row that this team has won this prestigious Championship.

The awards ceremony at Hamilton Town House on 28th May celebrated the achievements of everyone involved with disability sport across South Lanarkshire.

Among those who were invited to speak at the event was Adam Donnachie, a disability athlete from South Lanarkshire who competes in swimming and wheelchair basketball.

Adam spoke about his journey in sport and the positive impact it has had on his life so far, as well as his future hopes and aspirations.

Also speaking to invited guests was South Lanarkshire Disability Sport Chairman Forbes Dunlop and Scottish Disability Sport’s Chief Executive Officer Gavin Macleod.

South Lanarkshire Provost Ian McAllan, who gave the closing remarks, said: “I was delighted to be part of this fantastic occasion which celebrated the wonderful achievements from everyone involved in disability sport in South Lanarkshire.

“Some of the people I had the pleasure of meeting and the stories I heard were truly inspiring and a reflection on the hard work, commitment and talent that they put into competing in their respective sports.

“My congratulations go to all the winners in their respective categories – the standard just keeps getting better every year and I am sure the judges had a tough time choosing who should pick up each trophy.”

The winners were:

Junior Male Sports Performer of the Year -  Alexander Thomson

Junior Female Sports Performer of the Year – Shiona McClafferty

Adult Male Sports Performer of the Year – Jack Connolly

Adult Female Sports Performer of the Year – Hazel Irvine

Coach of the Year – Steven Moffat

Club of the Year – U18 Scotland Wheelchair Basketball Squad

High School of the Year – Lanark Grammar School

Joint Primary School of the Year – High Blantyre Primary and Greenburn Primary
