Carluke Rovers manager Colin Slater has wasted no time in assembling his side for the upcoming Central District Second Division campaign with 16 players agreeing deals with the Clydesdale club.

Veteran midfielder Mark Weir is set for his 18th consecutive season at the Rovers and joins 10 players from last season’s side that narrowly missed promotion by a single point.

The Rovers moved quickly secure to their top goalscorer, Ian Watt, alongside player of the year Mark Haddow.

Sam Biggart, Jamie Dickson, Gary Gow, Reece Lowden, Chick McCole, Stuart Mitchell, John Renwick and Willie Souter have all agreed to remain at the club for the coming season.

Midfielder Scott Tart, who spent the latter part of last term at the club on loan, has now signed permanently from Shettleston.

Carluke have added four new faces with more players currently on trial during pre-season.

Goalkeeper Rhys Murray joins from Westpark United U21s while defender Aldin El Zubaidi arrives from East Region Super League outfit Bo’ness United.

Greg Kane will provide competition in midfield after a successful season with Rutherglen Glencairn U21s.

Mark Cassidy has been on the Carluke radar for some time and after missing out on the forward to Newmains United last season, he will now feature for the Rovers next term.

Goalkeeper Dan Tobin and Lewis McDougall have joined Clydesdale rivals Lesmahagow, while forward Greg Fernie has left the club to join Rossvale after rejecting a new deal.

The Rovers have several pre-season games scheduled and will host Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday 8 April before their Clydesdale Cup semi final trip to Forth Wanderers on Tuesday 18 July.

Carluke will then welcome Livingston United to the John Cumming Stadium on Saturday 22 July before travelling to Kello Rovers on Saturday 29 July.
