Lanark’s Winning formula: Gary set to lead business fightback
Gary is relishing the prospect of creating a business proposal for the town
Gary Winning has been appointed by the Lanark Community Development Trust to consult with local shopkeepers and key stakeholders in order to develop a comprehensive business plan for the town centre.
The born and bred Lanarkian has strong connections with the business community through his role in the development of the Totally Locally campaign and work as manager of The Clydesdale Inn.
Gary will be liaising with residents, shopkeepers and local organisations to produce a business proposal for the area and a town centre survey to gauge views on a range of local issues is already underway.
Gary is looking forward to producing a plan for the project, named Discover Lanark, that is directed by the needs of the community and appeals to locals and visitors alike.
He said: “There are many examples of successful campaigns like this across Scotland and I am sure that Lanark can be another name added to the long list of towns that have revitalised their local community.
“The plan will be devised and decided by local businesses so that any projects that are carried out are done so because the community believes that they will make a positive impact.”
Graeme McLeish, Director of RC McLeish and Chairman of the Development Trust’s Business Development Working Group, added: “Gary is the perfect choice to lead a business consultation as his passion for Lanark knows no limits.
“I am looking forward to working closely with Gary and seeing the wide-ranging benefits that this initiative can bring to the Royal Burgh.”
