Development Trust submits revised plans to refurbish derelict Castlebank sawmill
The Development Trust is determined to see its renovation vision come to life
The Lanark Community Development Trust has registered amended plans to renovate the derelict sawmill at Castlebank Park with South Lanarkshire Council as it looks to transform the building into a community resource.
The Development Trust’s application to the Big Lottery Fund for £500,000 to redevelop the structure was rejected in March and the group has altered its plans as it pursues smaller grants to fund the project.
The original proposals included linking the sawmill and toilet block with a solar panel roof and demolishing rear of the building with a new structure put in place, all on the same ground level.
Under the revised papers the whole building will be retained and refurbished on a lesser scale to create a classroom and kitchen area for delivering training courses as well as providing office space.
The Lanark Website understands that the project is likely to cost in the region of £160,000.
South Lanarkshire Council has until Wednesday 26 July to determine the application.
